The American Institute of CPAs has asked the U.S. Department of Education to include “accounting” in the definition of professional degree programs eligible for graduate-level financing. The AICPA argues CPAs meet critical public needs through a rigorous licensure pathway and deserve recognition alongside other professions. Final regulations must be implemented by July 1, 2026.
